Today I installed Ubuntu 8.10 on VMware workstation. The installation was quite easy and I'm impressed the HW requirements are very low. Unfortunately I had problems to install VMware tools in Ubuntu.
In order to get the full graphic mode I have to install VMware tools. Unfortunately VMware provides an rpm only rpm but Ubuntu needs a deb. Google helped me and I found e nice tool called alien. I installed it with apt-get install alien in a console and converted the rpm with alien -k vmware.rpm into a deb. The installation of the deb with Synaptic tooks some time but went through without any issues. Next I invoked vmware-config.pl and I was able to use the whole screen resolution of the graphic HW. bunt is a nice OS - not as fat as SuSE 11 and can be installed much easier.
